    SPECIAL SCREENING • BECOMING GIULIA

    Laura Kaehr • 2023 • 103 mins • Switzerland

French, Italian, German, and English with English Subtitles

Join the Consulate General of Switzerland in Chicago, the Swiss Benevolent Society, and the Alliance Française de Chicago for a special screening of the documentary Becoming Giulia. The screening will be followed by a post-film discussion with director Laura Kaehr, as well as a reception featuring complimentary Swiss wines and hors d’œuvres!

In her feature length debut, Laure Kaehr documents the return of Zurich Opera prima ballerina Giulia Tonelli to the stage, just four months after giving birth. Shot over three years, En corps follows Giulia as she balances the demanding world of elite ballet and her new family life.

“…un regard intime et engagé sur le parcours d’une femme qui se réapproprie son propre corps et sa place sur le devant de la scène.” — Filmingo.

Winner of the Audience Award for Best Film at the 2022 Zurich Film Festival, Becoming Giulia offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at one of the world’s great opera houses, a timely study of the reality of women balancing motherhood and their career, and a message of hope about the role of women directors and choreographers in professional ballet.

                                                                    ___________________

The screening will be followed by a moderated discussion between director Laura Kaehr and Chicago Repertory Ballet dancer and Joffrey Academy of Dance faculty member Miriam-Rose LeDuc, moderated by Consul General of Switzerland Pascal Bornoz. Join us afterward in the Eleanor Wood Prince Salon for complimentary Swiss wines and hors d’oeuvres. Non-alcoholic options will be available.

This event is free and open to the public. Registration is required.
