Calling all admirers of costume design, illustration, ballet, opera, French history, and Baroque style!
Against the backdrop of her mesmerizing exhibition on display in the Helen Wood Prince Salon, we are delighted to welcome Franco-Tunisian visual artist and costume designer WERIEM for a lecture on the stage costumes of the 17th and 18th French court. After the lecture, join us for a glass of wine in the Salon and a chance to check out the Pierrot Art Show exhibition and speak with the artist.
👑 This event highlights stage costumes at the French court in the 17th and 18th centuries. Following the drawings of illustrators who worked for kings Louis XIII, XIV, XV and XVI, we’ll examine the fantasies of ballet and opera costumes presented at royal festivities. We’ll look at the rules and symbols used on stage costumes and their evolution. We’ll conclude with examples of contemporary costume designs inspired by the splendors of the Baroque era.
🚪 Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Artist’s remarks begin at 6:30. Please enter via 54 W Chicago Ave.
