Djordje Varda, the floral designer of the Ritz Paris
On May 16, floral wizard Djordje Varda will create a magnificent floral décor for the gala.
Although the Ritz has always been one of the world’s most visually arresting hotels, its surroundings have been lent extra flair recently by the magnificent creations of floral decorator Djordje Varda.
The Serbian-born 38-year-old — whose previous professional lives include incarnations as a journalist, cosmetic expert and furrier — only truly began to revel in his passion for blooms a couple of years ago. Entirely self-taught, he was free to adopt his own personal style combining zen minimalism with a strong hint of sensuality. “I derive an equal amount of pleasure from creating my designs and hunting for premium products. I love hunting for flowers none of my competitors have, in far-flung countries”, Varda explains.
The flowers that seem to fuel his imagination most are orchids… For maximum effect he pairs their delicate blooms with big, sinewy pieces of wood he collects during strolls in the forest. Varda’s masterpieces are such an attraction with the hotel’s guests that special classes are being scheduled so that the designer can instruct Ritz, Paris guests how to conjure up their own spellbinding floral designs.
