Alliance Française, please enter at 54 West Chicago Avenue
The French Decorative Arts Symposium, presented by the Alliance Française de Chicago each spring, is a three-part, museum-quality lecture series featuring international experts in the decorative arts. Tickets are sold both as a lecture series and as single lectures. Patron tickets (series and single) include lunch with the speaker following each lecture and a tax deductible contribution to the Alliance Française.

In the second lecture of the decorative arts series, Meredith Chilton will look at the love of chinoiseries at the French court, as well as the passion for all things Ottoman, from costumes to coffee. She will unveil spectacular banquet tables, opera and ballet production, masquerades, and dress all inspired by the wonders of the Far East, the Ottoman Empire, and the distant Americas.

Meredith Chilton, founding curator of the Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art, Toronto, is an independent art historian and curator and editor-in-chief of the Melinda and Paul Sullivan Foundation for the Decorative Arts, which will publish a major monograph on early Viennese porcelain in 2009. She has curated nineteen exhibitions, lectures extensively in North America and Europe, and has made four films on ceramics with the Canadian Broadcasting Company.

Registration is required and space is limited:

$350 Patron Series (three lectures & three luncheons or two luncheons and dinner buffet on April 2)
$125 Patron Ticket (one lecture & one luncheon)
$100 Lecture Series (three lectures)
$45 Lecture Ticket (one lecture)

The Patron Series is tax-deductible above $200 and the Patron Ticket is tax-deductible above $50. The patron program is a special fundraising project of the Woman's Board of the Alliance Française.
